“How did the Ancients know how to build the Pyramids?”

That question is one of the most frequently asked questions about the ancient Egyptian culture, especially when one comes to fully realise the sophistication of the accomplishment.

For example did you know…

The Great Pyramid is the most accurately aligned structure in existence and faces true north with only 3/60th of a degree of error.

That the Great Pyramid is located at the centre of the land mass of the earth.

The weight of the pyramid is estimated at 5,955,000 tons. Multiplied by 10^8 gives a reasonable estimate of the Earth’s mass.

The southern shaft in the King’s Chamber pointed to the star Al Nitak (Zeta Orionis) in the constellation Orion, circa 2450 BCE The Orion constellation was associated with the Egyptian god Osiris. No other star aligned with this shaft during that time in history.

Twice the perimeter of the bottom of the granite coffer times 10^8 is the sun’s mean radius. [270.45378502 Pyramid Inches* 10^8 = 427,316 miles]

The curvature designed into the faces of the pyramid exactly matches the radius of the earth.

Pretty amazing huh. But how did they know how to do that?

Aliens seems to be the popular answer today but in the documentary series Magical Egypt, an alternative idea is provided. The great engineering and artistic feats of ancient Egypt are not seen as the work of an alien race, nor as mankind's earliest attempts at primitive civilisation, but instead Magical Egypt places the responsibility for these majestic constructions and artistic accomplishments, that  scientific and metaphysical implications we are only beginning to fully appreciate, squarely upon the shoulders of ancient man. Furthermore the documentary team goes on to answer the perennial question of how they knew how to do it!

R. A. Schwaller De Lubicz

R. A. Schwaller De Lubicz

There is no one more qualified to answer this question than R. A. Schwaller De Lubicz, who spent his entire lifetime pursuing alchemy, physics, mathematics, geometry, art, astronomy, and, among his favourites, symbolism. He spent over fifteen years engaged in his studies in Egypt and his work, The Temple of Man, reflects such skill and the determination to comprehend the ancients mindset and intellect hat it exceeds far beyond any other works of disciplined study along these lines.

Schwaller believed that in order to truly understand the work of the ancient builders, one would need to enter into their mentality, or adopt their manner of consciousness, which he believed was very different from our own. Pharaonic Consciousness is what Schwaller called it, and in todays world of email and Instagram, mobile phones and airplanes, getting into the mind of an ancient Egyptian seems daunting.

Gary Lachman who is featured in Magical Egypt 2 explains Pharaonic consciousness as “functional consciousness” which is a way of knowing reality from the inside. Schwaller believed ancient Egypt was based on this inner knowing, very unlike our own outer-oriented one.” As Schwaller explained, “There is another way of knowing, one very similar to Taoist forms of perception”.  Schwaller advises us to "leave all dialectic behind and follow the path of the Powers” and in Magical Egypt 2 we do just that. Our journey takes us on a circuitous route from Taoist thought as Schwaller directed, to altered states of consciousness and even other realms of possibility!

As it turns out a study of the ancient Egyptian art turns out to be the quickest, most direct way to study the this ancient consciousness. The most significant finding by the Magical Egypt team was that the focus of much of the ancient art was centred decisively on the study of consciousness as the art was used to transmit a dense web of symbols that were in a very literal sense, schematics of consciousness.

In trying to understand the ancient art, we are taken on a voyage of discovery that leads through Taoist thought, The Symbolism of the Snake, Kundalini, the Third eye, Altered States of Consciousness including the  Hypnogogic state and Alchemy. A circuitous route indeed, but one that marks the path to  “knowing reality from the inside”. The conjunction if this wide array of disciplines unlocks a mystery that seems to hold a promise for man today to be able to access the same type of consciousness and knowledge, the functional consciousness that the ancients surely accessed. In the ancient world, all roads lead to the central mystery of consciousness, both in its off-the-rack state, and in the higher non-standard states of mind that are available to all of us.
